Having a birthday in the U.S is very different from other countries. In the U.S, we throw a birthday party and have some cake. In other countries such as Mexico, they do pinatas to drop candy for the kids and blast the music for entertainment. Not only do they serve the cake but there are few parents that bring food that they had made to the party.

When coming to a birthday party, guest come with gifts for the girl or boy. Many people think hard on what the child would like before coming to the party. The way they would know what to get them is based on their age. Giving money can also be a proper gift for a kid who would almost be coming to adulthood.

Preparing food for the child / teen gives an opportunity for all guests to eat what they like while waiting for the cake. The cake makes the the birthday better with the wish of a child and a laugh of cake on the face. Basically the kid gets the first bite of the cake because it was their birthday.

For entertainment, adults try setting up games, clowns, or even a bouncy house. All these things are what can make a birthday party great. By setting all this up, it can keep all the kids busy while parents set up anything available for the cake.

Once the whole party is done, the kid opens up the presents and the adults clean up what they can. The guest then leave and the parents clean up the next day depending on how big the birthday was.

John, your article reminded me of my study abroad program in México! The family I stayed with threw a birthday party for their grandson who was turning one. I had never been to a kid’s birthday party like that before! There were probably one hundred people in attendance. The food was incredible! And of course, there was a piñata! I think he received more presents for his first birthday than I had if you combined all my birthdays! They definitely know how to celebrate! Great article.
